Calgary, AB – Olympic bobsleigh athlete, and former CFL running back, Jesse Lumsden, has shifted his career focus from the playing field to the board room in taking a business development role with Resource Merchant Capital.
With his eyes set on competing in his third Olympics in 2018, Lumsden will take a year off from racing down the icy chute to launch a career in corporate Calgary.
“Training and competing in competitive sport is the ultimate grind, and at some point giving the body a rest can be very productive,” said Lumsden, who will continue training and rejoin his team next season. “I want to give my body a break and leverage this opportunity of putting energy into my transition out of sport which can be very difficult for athletes.”
A recent recipient of the inaugural Randy Starkman Humanitarian award, Lumsden touched on where his attention resides. “My professional focus is on developing a strong network for the purpose of sourcing investments in the Oil and Gas Service sector.”
“I feel very fortunate to be working with a group eager to accelerate my business career,” added Lumsden. “I firmly believe there are many synergies between success in sport and success in business. Long term planning, setting goals and working hard to achieve excellence is the key to success in both.”
Resource has developed a relationship with Lumsden over the last 2 years, and sees the value in adding an Olympic athlete to their work force. “With Jesse focused on representing Canada in Pyeongchang, we are excited to embark on this journey with him, and support him every step of the way, while also opening a door for him to walk into when his competitive days come to an end” says Murray Cobbe, Chairman of Resource Merchant Capital.
